The Agricultural Estate was established on March 30, 1967 by notary Giovanni Barricelli in Benevento by Carmine Zollo, father of the current owner Maurizio Zollo.
It originated from the farms bought by the farmer Cosimo Zollo - Maurizio Zollo's grandfather - in the year 1911.
The Agricultural Estate develops in the valley of the river Sabato, on the borders of the town of Benevento with that of San Leucio del Sannio (near the little town of Casale Maccabei).
The Agricultural Estate is today made up of vineyards, the ancient farm and the more recent Villa Carel, a structure where the property currently lives.
In more recent years the vineyards owned in Benevento have been joined by the availability of other farms planted with vineyards all falling into territories suited to and protected by the controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin: the municipalities of Torrecuso and Chianche.
Sannio Beneventano is an uncontaminated territory, where green hills follow each other, woods that make up the Sannita Apennines, natural parks and short waterways. They welcome villages and nuclei of inhabitants of very ancient origins, chests of art treasures of ancient culture and of convinced Christian witness. Pre-Roman archaeological sites and important museum centers underline the presence of ancient civilizations, which enrich the territory of reference in a perennial manner.
Benevento is the province of Campania most suited to the cultivation of vines and the production of wine. Because of the continuous enhancement of the valuable native vines, the splendid oenological productions of the territory, with a protected name, have found definitive affirmation.
Discovering the territory of Sannio beneventano is therefore a journey to be carried out in a union with the knowledge of the wine roads, which place in close connection vineyards, cellars and farmhouses of particular beauty. They are places not widely known that Rocca dei Sanniti Viticoltori intends to further make known in the context of the daily activity linked to wine.
Rocca dei Sanniti Viticoltori intends to propose over time a limited number of autochthonous references, deriving from restricted production due to the niche characteristics of the winery: a red wine of great value, such as Aglianico del Benevento, important whites made up of Greco and Fiano, a third white, the Falanghina, which for its eclecticism is proposed in still, sparkling and refined versions in barrique.
They are all wines that have a unique imprint, specifically characterizing and therefore well recognizable, which pay homage to workplaces where the enological commitment emerges daily.
The wines produced benefit from a hilly area of reference particularly suited to the cultivation of vines, as well as traditional techniques of land management and WINESfication that have remained unchanged over time. They fully respect the ancient criteria of grape processing in the Benevento Sannio.
The objective pursued by Rocca dei Sanniti viticulturists is therefore to ensure an oenological production totally distant from that of an industrial type and, at the same time, encourage the taster to continuously compare it with that belonging to the memory. So as a testimony to the unchanged ways of life that, even today, they lead to the farms and the families of the farmers of Sannio Benevento and that they maintain the territorial identity unaltered.
Events and collaboration with the art
The Cellar collaborates steadily and in a convincing manner with exponents of the figurative and musical arts.
It favors in this combination national structures and artists, ensuring its own contribution through different forms of sponsorship, thus corresponding to a specific company orientation of the property.
Ancient is the link between wine and art. Over time it has been a mutual enrichment, even today without a solution of continuity.
What surely Rocca dei Sanniti Viticoltori never fails is a good bottle at the opening of the vernissages or at the end of the musical events.
In this context, among the most important events of recent years, mention is made of collaborations with the Galleria 28 of Piazza di Pietra, the concerts of the Coro dell'Aventino and the Piano Concorso Roma Friedrich Chopin.
